Nurse practitioner needed at health, wellness center
Supervisors were informed Monday about the need for a nurse practitioner at the DeSoto Health and Wellness Center, now located in the former Southaven Library building.
Billie Wilhite said a new nurse practitioner could earn a salary of between $82,000 to $85,000 a year. A physician for the clinic could cost the non-profit clinic $150,000 a year.
The clinic typically charges between $30 and $60 for an office visit but fees are assessed on a sliding-scale basis and the ability to pay. The clinic does not accept any federal money and is totally privately funded.
The clinic has been in operation for six years.
On Monday, the board authorized County Attorney Tony Nowak to draft a local and private bill that would enable the appropriation of $50,000 toward completing the cost of renovating the new Wellness Center building.
